Laksmmi (Fish Business)

Laksmi was in our first group of loanees (July 2009). She came nervously into our dragons den style interview and we grilled her on the ins and outs of her proposed fish selling business. It seemed like a good plan and we decided to lend her the 5000 rupees she was asking for.
And it has turned out to be a successful business. She uses the loan to travel by bus for 40kms to the coast. From there she buys some dried fish which she brings back to her home town of Vellatur. Dried fish traders are few and far between in Vellatur and so she has a long list of happy customers for her dried fish.
